Here we go again!

Thank you for your suggestions for a title. I've tried to incorporate a couple in the space available; do hope you approve!

Anyway - what's in a name? The point is that we support each other through another month of effort, and try to end the month in smaller knickers than we started! I didn't achieve that in April. My Christmas indulgences have had severe repercussions, not least in the size of my sloggis.

For me it would be Very Good Indeed to achieve a Clean Month, as I've got various things happening in June for which it would be good to look/feel slimmer. So I'm focusing on these events, and shall try to eat simply, not use food as a "reward", drink the water and continue with my exercise programme.

Who's in?!

I didn't do very well for her Maj. I got derailed at about Day 50 and have been "variable" since then.
However, I may do better for our athletes. It's also our summerschool 4 days later so that's double the incentive for me.
Who's in? And who's still in for Maj?

This has been buzzing round in my head for the past couple of days ever since someone posted it in the Shakegate saga. It's lodged in the same bit of my brain as "Tiny meals, no snacks".

Last night when OH ladled out his tomato sauce, I declined parmesan or creme fraiche because the sauce is cooked with a good quantity of butter and he does my cabbage with butter and fennel seeds. At lunchtime I measured out a tablespoon of mayo for my chicken salad and didn't add dressing on the leaves as well.

I have come to the conclusion that a tablespoon of oil is what I would have when eating "normally" - there's no need to add more. Another penny-dropping moment.

Hello, I'm planning a start at the beginnning of April and getting ready this week... it's my birthday on Saturday with family descending hence the start in April once that's all over.
I've been shopping and stocked up on all good stuff, supplements and meat and fish mainly! Begun taking the supplements today so that I'm going to hit the ground running, and also cutting back on carbs this week in preparation - but at work they always bake a cake for you on your birthday so I have that to look forward to on Friday - last one! Thankfully I'm not a sweet craver and can quite happily go for months without a piece of chocolate or cake so that won't be missed.
However I am a bit of a fruit bat, so am cutting back on that, no bowl of satsumas on my desk anymore.
I have a Cairn Terrier and in a couple of weeks I'm bringing home her little sister, a puppy who will be by then 8 weeks old - chaos will reign! But at least having the dog(s) means that I have no choice in the walking - every day twice a day I'm across the fields.
Living in rural North Oxfordshire, if anyone is nearby would be good to know!
Can't wait for the new me, I've done every diet (and I mean EVERY) under the sun, and have been resisting starting yet another diet because I just want to find a way to LIVE rather than be constantly dieting and this really seems to offer this.
Also I'll be 48 on Saturday and I'm aiming to be fit and fabulous at 50 - so I've 2 years to get there!
I originally trained at Cordon Bleu many years ago although I no longer work as a chef so I'm also looking forward to cooking some delicious food.
That's me, excited about starting and being able to slowly unpack all those many boxes of smaller and smaller clothes I have tucked away and lose the big big big ones (currently a size 22).
Nicky x

OK - decided to start a thread on this trying subject, oft discussed on Hibernators, but don't want to bore non-parents to death. Got home from OO to clean & tidy house, big hugs, (OH saying that home didn't have much meaning without me there.... haha get used to it boyo!!) Was told by OH that DS (age 14) had got up pre-dawn (03:30) to get together with other cyclists to cycle the London Marathon route. All in all about a 35 mile ride for him. Fantastic - great achievement. Then read the Learning Review which had arrived over weekend. I quote: "missed so many lessons....when X falls behind he needs to motivate himself more....good work hampered by patchy attendance....improve attendance" etc. Worst fears confirmed - my boy is bunking school big time. Am as pissed off by school as disappointed in him - why don't they call parent if child has more than one lesson off without permission?
But then had chat with big sis - her middle daughter has big problems (too numerous to detail, her BF's dd is anorexic) - geez! - gave my two big hugs, told them I loved them to bits. Bunking school? Pah - no problem!

Just bagged two "best available" seats at The Haymarket next Wed to see Sweet Charity. Got a great deal through LastMinute.com. The tickets were £27.50 each with £28.00 off. Hopefully we'll be in the stalls. Tamzin Outhwaite got excellent reviews, as did the whole show. I LOVED the sixties film of Sweet Charity with Shirley MacLaine. Fabulous score and choreography.

On a loftier level, am trying to get tickets for Henry VIII at The Globe.

Don't see a thread for March yet...

I did IPD way back in 2007 and lost 2 stone. Sort of kept it off,but now a stone seems to have reappeared!!

I restarted in Jan (fail) and Feb (fail) so I thought if I actually went public with this, I might stand some chance of succeeding in March.

I still eat low-carb except weekends and wine, so those are the two things that have to go....

Well, weekends will still happen but without the bread and puddings "because it's the weekend"

Any more March starters out there? See you for an IPD breakfast tomorrow...

At last!

We have a critical mass of Irish twiggers - five of us arrived in York a few weeks ago to wreck the joint - and flushed with the success of that outing, we're meeting up again this coming Friday evening (18th May).

No idea yet of a venue, but since most of us are in/near Dublin, it'll be probably somewhere in the city.

Anyone out there lurking, or otherwise undeclared as an Irish P2T fan, who fancies coming along?

It's probably a bit short notice, but anyone from across the way is more than welcome as well!!!

All welcome, we're a lovely bunch who don't bite and have reasonably good manners (honest).

Roll up, roll up!

Hello all!

Having been an instant coffee girl for years, followed by 3 years completely decaf on this WOE, I have now started drinking coffee again & have found that I actually now love proper coffee. I have several cups each morning at work, and at weekends have started popping out to Cafe Nero to get my fix. Love it!

I was visiting friends over the weekend who have a Nespresso machine. Small, tidy, funky on the kitchen bench. they say it costs about 25p/pop so very reasonable.....the coffee was lovely - you can get all sorts of different flavours & strengths, as well as decaf.

Does anyone have one?

Besides, if it is good enough for George Clooney....

Hi - I make these regularly because they are so easy and you can reheat them in the morning for a very quick breakfast. But every time I make them, it doesn't matter how much I oil the cake tin, they stick and it takes AGES to clean it all off...plus they don't come out very cleanly so they look a bit messy!(still taste delicious though) - any ideas?? Thanks. x

The Doctors Eades have published a fascinating article on the latest research into the effectiveness of statins -
http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/cardiovascular-disease/statinators-spill-the-beans/#more-3760

What this research shows is that "... statins alone do not reverse the growth of plaque (at least not plaque in the carotid arteries) despite lowering LDL levels ..."

The article also reminds us that "there is no evidence that statins provide any benefit in terms of decreased overall mortality to females of any age or to men over the age of 65 regardless of their state of health. The only group that statins has shown to provide any benefit for in terms of decreases all-cause mortality (the only statistic that really counts) is men under the age of 65 who have been diagnosed with heart disease. Even in that group, benefit is so small as to be questionable. "

I started this on Wednesday hoping that my book would be here, but it isn't!
I'm going on a coach trip tomorrow and just want to check out my dinner/lunch. I have followed low carb before so I have an idea what to take but haven't followed this plan so not sure what is allowed that is portable.
What I plan on taking are low carb sausages, (2.2g carbs per sausage, trace sugar), some cheese portions, an Atkins bar then either cold cheeseburger pie, ( mince, onion, herbs and garlic with a topping made from mayo, cheese and cream), or cold pizza chicken, (chicken breast topped with tomato and herb, and grated cheese). oh and water of course, although a bit worried about that cos it is quite a long time on the coach!!!!!!
Is there any of this which is not allowed?

Feel like a bit of a fraud, starting this as I'm definitely NOT a runner. But I want to be! Everyone tells me how liberating it is, how much fun, how addictive etc. So this time I'm really going to try!

I've downloaded this app and will start when the weather gets a bit better (I know I'm a wimp!!).

http://splendid-things.co.uk/getrunning/

Any more tips you lovely people can offer would be great!

These are the posts I turn to when I'm feeling low on inspiration and when it feels easier to fall under the wheels of the wagon and be pummelled back into a pear shape than it does to stay holding the reins and zooming towards slinkdom.

To those whose threads I've quoted here or posts I've cut and pasted - I hope you don't mind. If you do, just let me know and I'll edit them out. You'll find a wide variety of inspiring posts, from encouraging words of wisdom to ladies who've been there, done that, got the size 10 t-shirt and beyond. Please feel free to add your own tips and experience or paste links that have spurred you on.

Apologies if I've missed out any legendary 'losers' - that's a purely accidental, zombiefied-from-a-day-at-the-grindstone mistake on my part.

This is one of my favourites - Shoequeen's IPD Odyssey. For anyone who hasn't met Shoequeen she's a gorgeous, slender, all-singing, all-dancing advert for this WOE. When I met her, I honestly thought she was one of those women who's always been slim and only diets/low carbs to maintain her naturally fabulous figure. Then someone told me that SQ had been on a big journey and then she posted this - a must-read!

http://www.pig2twig.co.uk/forums/topic.php?id=27200

A year in the life of IPD: http://www.pig2twig.co.uk/forums/topic.php?id=20830

Excellent, frank discussion of headstuff: http://www.pig2twig.co.uk/forums/topic.php?id=21272

Habits, headstuff and how to get over it: http://www.pig2twig.co.uk/forums/topic.php?id=15479#post-298198

"All I'll say is I've wasted four months this year persuading myself that all sorts of things I like eating are 'not as evil as some things I could eat' eg fruit, fruit juice, oatcakes - while still nominally eating IPD. So it's carbs plus fat which has equalled - quelle surprise - a gain.
A small one, but they're pounds I've had to lose all over again, and what a stupid waste of time and effort that is, particularly when I know how effective this WoE is if you JFDI.
Back in the zone and it feels amazing. It's a bit like cycling or swimming - once you go back, you feel so great that you can't imagine why you ever wanted to do things differently. No joint pains, no bloated feeling, better sleep, more energy. What's not to like?"
KoalaPaws

"Porridge and berries is Phase 2. Full stop. I think this is the mistake people make all the time. They eat food which knock them out of ketosis and then eat fatty food such as cheese and cream and then don't lose as much weight as they want to.

I fiddled around a lot mid diet for a long time but I was basically fooling myself. Then I came to the conclusion that every time I was eating something off IPD and drinking alcohol, I was choosing to stay fat. In the end, I realised I had to make hard and conscious choices every time I was presented with such a situation and I still do that all the time to stay at
target weight.
Of course, you can eat and drink whatever you like, but IPD only works if you stick to it. It's a narrow path one has to follow and I honestly don't think it's for everybody. Maybe other diets suit different people better."
Newleaf

Very interesting discussion on trigger foods:

Found this hypnosis mp3 and brief e-book a useful accompaniment: http://www.georgiafoster.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=76&Itemid=70

It's not quite IPD - actually a bit less strict (so IPDers will enjoy even better results, right?) - but a lot of the principles are the same and the success stories are amazing. Read them and weep? Nah, read them and reach for the ribeye.... http://www.marksdailyapple.com/category/success-story-summaries/

Long-term IPDer whose tiny weeny little cheats here and there are somehow adding up to a great big fat stall? http://www.pig2twig.co.uk/forums/topic.php?id=25900

Willpower of a gnat? http://www.pig2twig.co.uk/forums/topic.php?id=11895#post-220145

"I did the IPD about 18 months ago and it worked brilliantly for me. I lost 12 kilos in about three and a half weeks (can you believe that!!) and kept going and lost nearly 20Ks after 2.5 months. I found it very easy, was never hungry and felt really good - more energy, skin improved - the whole deal! Somehow though, I went wrong. Although not as fat as before now, still loads heavier than should be again. The question really is - why do we go wrong? Is it just that we feel we are definitely 'dieting' and so one slip means let's just go for it?? I just don't know - maybe it's just life that makes us go 'off the rails'. I have been on and off IPD since losing so much before and always lose when on it, so, as always, will go for it again in Jan and lets see what happens. More reason this time as have split up from long term partner and father of my son, so need a bit of self confidence to get back out there again. Not ready at all yet but maybe, at some point..... who knows!! The IPD does work and stupidly, I find it very simple and easy to do - why haven't I been doing it then!! Good question indeed! Strictly by the book is definately the answer and, for all your friends that tell you it's not healthy just tell them that my Brother is a GP and he's done fantastically on it (having researched madly the health implications of course) - sure, you mustn't stay on P1 forever, but once on P2 and finally P3, you're eating a very healthy, balanced diet. When I was little, my Mum was always 'watching her weight' and the first thing she did was to cut out spuds and bread - pasta didn't exist then!! She is slim, healthy and beautiful aged 65!!!"

Good morning everyone.

B: scrambled eggs with bacon and mushrooms
L: on the plane - will take some cold sausages and cherry toms I think
D: I think there are some lamb burgers in the freezer back there, so it will probably be those with a few more cherry toms until my waitrose stuff arrives tomorrow - I know it is not ideal, all those cherry toms, but they have to be used up

W&S yes
E: the long FRA airport dash

Have you lovely stylish ladies got recommendations for shoes that are supremely comfortable but stylish. Preferably ones that I will be able to find in a high street to try on.

I can't wear Clarks and sadly don't do stilettos or dead flats. I'm looking for some casual summer sandles and a couple of dressy pairs.

Too long to think on yesterday's homeward journey from York, so here's a thing.

Some of us talked at breakfast yesterday about maybe doing a different sort of weekend. A get-away-from-it-all, in the country, totally IPD and get fit weekend with few distractions.

I'm thinking big cottage/house with some grounds for nearby hearty walks and runs, a cook to do strictly IPD breakfasts, buffet lunch and supper, and hire a trainer for a day who could do Zumba, pilates, route marches. Evil, I know, but...

Mate of mine might be up for a reduced-rate resty weekend in exchange for on-site reflexology and indian head massage sessions for a small fee to cover her travel.

Any interest in this? It's totally the sort of thing I'd be up for, but maybe that's just me...

I'm thinking end of September/early October when the kids are back at school and off-season rates kick in, but before it gets too cold, and probably in the middle of the country somewhere, near a road network 'cos I'm assuming people will bring their bikes.
